Puppy Start Right Classes

Instructor: Pam Shafer CPDT-KA

Tuesdays 6:30 – 7:30 pm OR Saturdays 10-11 am

Course fee $150.  6 week course.   Choose Tuesdays or Saturdays  -- with the option of attending on the other day if your week gets away from you. (Need instructor permission)

Puppy Start Right – starts when it is right for your puppy!  We recommend that puppies start at 8 weeks of age –or as soon as your puppy comes home.  The window for optimal socialization begins to close by 14 weeks of age.  It is important to start early!

What your puppy will learn: that class is fun! That people and other puppies are fun, that new items and surfaces are not scary, beginning play skills.  All exercises are designed to improve your puppy’s confidence – and we know how to work with timid puppies so they are not overwhelmed.  Your puppy will also learn to sit, to lie down, and to come lickety split when you call. We will also work on ‘leave it’ (using rewards!) and how to greet people with 4 feet on the floor.  We even have ‘Love your Vet’ chapters built into the curriculum.

What you will learn: You will learn what behaviors dogs display when they are stressed, how dogs learn, and why positive reinforcement is the best way to teach your new puppy.  We will talk about house training, crate training, puppy biting and MORE!

  • Vaccines: Bordetella (kennel cough), DAP ( Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus), and Rabies (when your puppy is old enough).
  • Current on flea and tick prevention. You will be asked to record the date and brand of the product you use.
  • Veterinary quality general dewormer (eg. Heartgard Plus, Interceptor Plus, Pyrantel) or negative stool sample within the last 30 days.
  • We will need a copy of your pet’s vaccine history from your veterinarian.
