She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Cornell University, then attended two years of veterinary school at the University of London’s Royal Veterinary College. Dr. Hayes transferred to North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2005.

In January of 2020, under the mentorship of Dr. Amy Pike, DVM, DACVB, IAABC-CABC, and Dr. Amanda Ringterink, DVM, DACVB, Dr. Hayes began a private practice residency with the goal of becoming board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists.
