Collaborative Team Remote Consultations:
Supporting Your Clients’ Pets with Behavioral Care
Our Collaborative Team Remote Consultation—also known as Vet-2-Vet Collaborations—allows primary care veterinarians to partner with our team to deliver expert behavioral support when clients cannot travel to our Minnetonka clinic.
The primary veterinarian, who holds the VCPR, remains the lead diagnostician and prescriber. While not present during the video consultation between the client and our behavior team, they receive a detailed recommended treatment plan including diagnostic and medication recommendations. All prescriptions and medical decisions are carried out through the referring clinic.
Our behavior therapists provide ongoing video-based coaching (billed per session), and follow-up visits with our doctors are available to support progress and plan adjustments.
This model ensures collaborative, high-quality care while keeping the referring veterinarian at the center of the treatment process.
How It Works
- Initiate the Referral: Start by filling out our behavior referral form and selecting the Collaborative Team Remote Consultation option.
- We Handle Scheduling and Payment: Once your referral is submitted, we’ll reach out to your client to arrange the consultation and collect payment upfront.
- Submit Background Information: Ahead of the appointment, submit your referral request, medical records, and any other relevant information. Your client will also receive a detailed Behavior History Questionnaire to complete.
- Consultation Session: The consultation is a 60-minute Zoom call between the client and one of our veterinarians, focused on understanding and addressing the pet’s behavioral needs.
- Client Resources: After the session, your client gains access to two species specific educational webinars.
- Canine Patients: Canine Body Language and a Safety and Management Webinar
- Feline Patients: Feline Body Language and a Meeting the Emotional Needs of Your Pet Cat.
After the Consultation
- Comprehensive Summary: You, as the primary care veterinarian, will receive a detailed written summary covering potential behavioral diagnoses, diagnostic testing recommendations, medication suggestions, and treatment strategies.
- Follow-Up Support: Email follow-ups are included for four weeks, with all communications between the client and us flowing through you. We encourage regular updates from the client on the treatment plan’s progress.
Virtual Recheck and Continued Care
- Recheck Appointments: At 10-12 weeks after the initial consultation, clients can schedule a virtual recheck with the attending behavior doctor. These 30-minute Zoom recheck sessions include an additional four weeks of email follow-up.
- Behavior Therapy and Group Classes: Clients also have the option to schedule 45-minute behavior therapy sessions with one of our skilled behavior therapists for $120.00 per session. They may also access any available virtual group classes.
Our Collaborative Team Remote Consultations provide a supportive, collaborative approach to veterinary behavioral care that prioritizes your role as the primary veterinarian. Reach out to learn more about how we can help meet the behavioral needs of your patients.
