Direct Referral Behavioral Care:
Comprehensive Support for Your Patient’s Mental Wellness
Our Direct Referral appointments allows our team of experienced behavior veterinarians and care professionals to take on complete case management for your patient’s behavioral health needs. Through this program, we work closely with the patient and their owner to create a tailored treatment plan focused on achieving emotional stability and an improved quality of life. Once the patient reaches stability, owners may choose to transition back to your care for ongoing maintenance and medication refills.
Why Choose a Direct Referral?
Direct referrals offer the highest quality of behavioral care, enabling our behavior veterinarians to form a direct, collaborative relationship with both the patient and their family. This approach ensures that each pet receives comprehensive, individualized support for their unique behavioral needs.
Vet-2-Vet Telemedicine Collaborations:
Bridging the Gap in Veterinary Behavioral Care
We do have clients who travel from areas outside the Twin Cities, as well as from surrounding states, but we recognize that this may not be possible for everyone. Some of your clients may face barriers—such as distance or travel limitations—that prevent them from accessing in-person behavioral care. To help meet the needs of those clients, we offer Vet-2-Vet Collaborations: a remote consulting service designed exclusively for veterinary professionals whose clients live outside the Twin Cities metro area or beyond reasonable driving distance to our clinic. This service is not intended for veterinarians or clients within our local referral area.
This service is not intended for use by veterinarians located within our standard referral radius. For local cases, we ask that clients be referred for in-person consultation to ensure they receive the most comprehensive and effective support.
Vet-2-Vet Collaborations allows us to work directly with you—the primary veterinarian—to extend our behavioral expertise to patients who would otherwise not have access to a veterinary behaviorist.
How Vet-2-Vet Collaborations Work
Our Vet-2-Vet Collaborations are designed to extend expert behavioral care to clients who live outside the Twin Cities metro area or have difficulty traveling to our Minnetonka clinic. This collaborative model brings together the client and patient, our doctors and behavior therapy team, and the pet’s primary veterinarian.
The primary veterinarian, who holds an established Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR), serves as the lead diagnostician and prescriber. While the veterinarian does not attend the video consultation, they remain a central part of the care team. After the initial virtual appointment with our doctors and behavior therapy staff, the primary veterinarian receives a detailed recommended behavior treatment plan, including any medication or diagnostic recommendations.
All prescriptions and medical decisions are carried out through the primary veterinarian, ensuring continuity of care at the local level.
Our behavior therapy team offers ongoing coaching and support to clients via video sessions (billed per session), and follow-up appointments with our doctors are recommended to monitor progress and make adjustments as needed.
